The José do Canto Forest-Garden is more than just a botanical garden. Besides a selection of different plants from various regions of the world, you can also admire some endemic plants, a special church and a truly impressive waterfall. The entrance to the park is located south of the Furnas Lagoon in São Miguel Island, Azores.
In this forest environment, you’ll be immersed in nature, enjoying the quiet gardens and dense mountainous vegetation surrounding the peaceful area.
The garden was planted in the 19th century, on the old Lagoa Seca volcano site. Its paths are flanked by beautiful camellia plants, many of them centenary, which bloom from January to May and constitute one of the best collections of old camellias.
You will be sharing the place with a group of special trees such as a monumental holm oak (Quercus rotundifolia), tulip trees and a giant redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) possibly the largest in the entire territory and classified as of Public Interest by the Forestry Services since 1970.
Meeting point: at 9:30 am at the entrance of the Garden.
Unless otherwise specified, all immersions start on Friday at 10:00 (10 am) and end on Sunday at 13:00 (1 pm). If you have to arrive a little later or leave a little earlier, we understand, just let us know.
Offering mountain views, the World’s Nests Furnas Pods Village provides fully equipped modern and comfortable accommodations. World’s Nests Furnas Pods Village has, for all guests, a patio, garden views, a seating area, cable flat-screen TV, a fully equipped kitchenette with a microwave and a fridge, and a private bathroom. Free bikes are also available. Get ready for unique and memorable experiences in the iconic village of Furnas.
